We rarely pause to examine the objects that mediate our relationship with the ground. Shoes are far more than ergonomic necessities. They are intricate design artifacts. Shoes encode status and reflect technological shifts and cultural belonging. Moreover, they embody radical imagination.
Presented at the Israel Museum, exhibition investigates footwear as a dynamic intersection of industrial design, fashion, and material culture.
The exhibition showcases ancient archaeological discoveries next to avant-garde prototypes. It reveals how one of our most familiar everyday objects continually pushes the boundaries of form and function.
In Others’ Shoes| Interactive Mirror Installation designed by Lila Chitayat
A custom made installation suggesting to playfully be in others shoes.
Three specialized mirrors create a playful visual displacement. Visitors stand before the glass to view their own reflections. The installation swaps their feet with those of other participants in the room. the work offers a sense of empathy and walking in another persons shoes.
The Entry Gallery draws its color palette from the vibrant, high-energy hues of contemporary sneaker culture and modern footwear. On the upper Floor the architecture undergoes a volumetric and chromatic shift. The linear walls give way to sweeping, organic curves that wrap around and contain the visitor, creating the immersive sensation of stepping inside the interior of a giant shoe.
